Oh yeah, I’m in the completely wrong place for this weekend! This is the first Memorial Day Sunday that I’m not at the Indy 500, since I was 14 years old (1996). My body and my brain are confused.
Why haven’t I consumed a single pork tenderloin sandwich this weekend?
How did I sleep through the track opening aerial bomb at 6am?
Where are all the helicopters?
Why am I not sitting under the maple tree drinking water and watching people steam towards the track right now?
I DON’T LIKE IT!
I get it, but I do not like it!
Gadamn it anyways!
That is all.
Hammer pic for your time.

Last year by this time I'd already worked 4 races at our local track and held the PNW Oppo meet. This year? Drinking a beer and getting a haircut are moments to remember

Hammer, on the other hand, has not missed many meals, from the look of him.
I knew a guy in the Army who worked for Goodyear. His store sent a truck to Indy and they sat on top of the truck for the race, in the infield. They invited some girls to sit up there with them. The Goodyear blimp zoomed in on them at one point during the show. Their wives were not pleased and morale in the shop was very low on Monday morning.

Not a lot of Maple trees around here, but if you hop on your scooter there’s tequila waiting for underneath a Mesquite tree in my front yard for you . My neighbors won’t mind if we race two wheeled things around our hood.

It’s weird. I have zero motivation to do anything this weekend. Part of it is from being “on call”, part from the weather being slightly psychotic, the rest is just because nothing "normal" is actually happening.

I went to the Indy 500 once, in 1976, when Johnny Rutherford won in a rain-shortened race. I went with my mom, and we took a motorhome and parked somewhere outside the track, and arrived a couple of days before the race. One of the most enjoyable parts of the trip was watching the parade of people arriving for the weekend. We went to the museum, and took a van ride around the track, where the guide pointed out all the bit black marks on the wall and told us who crashed there. Our seats were above the pits and we had a great view. I bet my mom that AJ Foyt would win, she bet on Rutherford. I had to do the dishes for a week.
My mom also tells the story of another time she went. The guys in the campsite next to hers had taken their empty beer cans and spelled out “COORS.” By the end of the weekend, they had spelled out “INDIANAPOLIS.”

I totally understand. I was actually glad to have Bill's scooters to sell, to have something to do. The Helix and the Chinesium are both gone now, so it's time to start shopping for a replacement!

I feel the same. Our town has a big fair all weekend, and the kids are getting to the point where they’re old enough and tall enough to go on and enjoy the rides.
One of my few regrets is never making it to Indy when I lived in terre haute for a couple years. I wish I had, in retrospect.

My kids were very upset to learn that there will be no 4th of July parade this year.
It is too bad you didn't make it when you were close. It's definitely a journey worth making at least once, from wherever you are.

Sorry about your streak. I think I recall you p os ting about it before. Well, this year is just part of your story now.
I was really looking forward what comes with th e Penske era. I guess we will just have to be patient.

I agree, it is part of the story, which I will tell for the rest of my life. I will be there whenever they run it, so I will consider my streak intact. It's just so weird to not be there today.

Come mid June I’ll know how you feel. First time in a long time that there will be no College World Series in Omaha. Two busiest weeks of the year just gone. Also Omaha was going to hold the Big Ten Baseball Tournament this year. Add to that no Le Mans to watch on TV. Going to be a quiet bday for me this year.

Have a tofu salad... it will make you feel better!
LOL
On a more serious note, I’m gonna have a similar experience in August as it will be the first year since I was little that I’m not going to the CNE due to it being cancelled.

You monster! Lol!
Too bad about the CNE. Hopefully I will actually get to go to the 500 in August.
